Tomorrow, as part of “Global Frackdown” concerned residents in Western New York will meet in downtown Buffalo to send a message to state lawmakers concerning the practice of hydraulic fracturing. It must be noted that here in Western New York, National Fuel Gas has been openly involved in, and advocating on behalf of this extremely questionable practice.
“In the past the City of Buffalo has passed a resolution asking Governor Cuomo to reject the DEC’s flawed study and instead pass a bill banning fracking in New York. However, Governor Cuomo has since stated that he wants to open up five southern tier counties to begin a pilot program for fracking! Now Western New York will stand up to Cuomo again on September 22nd as we gather together to send a message to our Governor that fracking will impact the entire state, no matter where it happens.
We will hear from local residents about issues fracking has already created for our area: from radioactive waste water disposal in Niagara Falls to an air polluting compressor station near a community park. We will also be taking a large group photo with messages to be sent to Cuomo to show that Western New Yorkers stand against drilling everywhere in the state and that it must be banned! Will you join us as all Western New Yorkers come out to demand Cuomo ban fracking now?”
